Locomotive Class 438 (M43)

This locomotive was designed for lightweight shunting and sideline services, and for routing freight trains on sidelines. Its resource is a 6-cylinder MB 836 Bb type diesel engine with maximum revolutions of 1,450/min. The vehicle is driven by a reversing and a shift gear, built in with one hydrodynamic and two torque converting gears, supported by cardan axles and axle gears. The vehicle has no train heating equipment.
With the amount of shunting work on the rise, and the need for higher performance and improved working order, the transformation of these vehicles became necessary. Accordingly, the locomotives were equipped with CAT 3006 DITA diesel engines compliant with EURO2 requirements, modern VOITH L3r4 gears, auxiliary generators and air conditioning. The compressor was replaced with a new one of a rotational system.
These locomotives are currently used for shunting at stations, and for moving vehicles to be repaired inside maintenance workshops.
